Any one else have a digital stereo still photo system? I have a pair of Sony V1s with the LANC Shepperd synchronizing box. Haven't used it much, but it is a nice set up.

Re: Digital Stereo
Thu, April 28, 2005 - 9:22 PMEverything I do is digital - I'm currently fiddling with a beam splitter attached to my Nikon D70 for stills, and a couple of Sony camcorders mounted side-by-side for video.
In fact, I've never used an analog camera in my life - I got into photography right as the first generation of prosumer digital cameras were showing up, so I decided to just miss the analog era. :)

Re: Digital Stereo
Fri, April 29, 2005 - 7:08 AMHow do you synch your camcorders? I use a Nu-View adapter on a Sony DV camcorder for stereo video.
You shouldn't completely skip the analog era, it has its own charm that is worth trying. I love the old cameras, the stereo cameras from 50 years ago. There is something beautiful in their design. It is worth $150 to get a piece of history that can also make incredible images. Plus, the image quality is better.
The 3D slide shows are great for small to medium size audiences. I'd like do digital stereo projection but it is still a bit costly.

Synching Camcorders
Thu, June 9, 2005 - 4:23 PMMy method of synching the camcorders is "digital" - I use two fingers and press the record button on both camcorders simultaneously.
Of course this means they both need to be set up with identical zoom, focus, exposure, white balance, etc ahead of time, and there are some serious limits on the fancy camerawork I can do.
I haven't really worked the kinks out of the digital video thing yet - I really need to figure out the right separation and maybe even toe in the cameras to make human subjects pop out of the scene the way one would like - any thoughts?

Nu-View Adapter for Stereo Video
Thu, June 9, 2005 - 4:25 PMBTW, how do you like the Nu-View adapter?
Is there software that will convert the output into anaglyph, or at least separate the left and right video streams, or do you have to use the provided viewing equipment with a TV set? -

Re: Nu-View Adapter for Stereo Video
Tue, September 26, 2006 - 11:18 PMWow, just noticed you'd replied.
I like the Nu-View although it has problems. The resolution is not great and the plastic cover over the mirror creates reflections sometimes. Yes you can convert the the Nu-View into other formats. You can use the free program by Muttyan, Stereo Movie Maker.

You can also use filters with VirtulDub to take one field of the interlaced l/r to give a 2D version of the 3D video. It does have lower resolution but if you want to share the video with other people who don't know much about 3D then it is a good idea to convert it into both anaglyph and 2D. -

Re: Nu-View Adapter for Stereo Video
Wed, September 27, 2006 - 9:38 AMI haven't used my Nu-View at all, because I only recently picked up a camera for it (I was waiting for garage sale pricing, and picked up a nearly unused Sony Hi-8 TRV-58 for fifteen bucks). My Nu-View has the Oliver Dean mods that supposedly get rid of a lot of the inherent problems, esp reflections. Doc -

Re: Nu-View Adapter for Stereo Video
Wed, September 27, 2006 - 6:56 PMLucky you to have the Oliver Dean mod version. I enjoy the Nu-View but most people find the flicker distracting. That goes away when projected at 85 hz through a DLP video projector. The big problem for me is finding the time to edit video! -

Re: Nu-View Adapter for Stereo Video
Fri, September 29, 2006 - 5:54 PMFlicker also goes away with either the older i-glasses HMD (180,000 pix rez per side) and the new ones (1.44mp rez) at standard slow field sequential NTSC. Spy Kids 3D and also Shark Boy and Lava Girl look terrific in field sequential. The US release of these films with anaglyph 3D is awful. The i-glasses head mounted displays have memory buffers that fix the flicker problem. I've got a very lightweight icuiti hmd that will go field sequential at high flip rates, but you have to drive it in that mode with a computer, not a dvd player. I was thinking about rigging the icuiti display to the Nu-View so I can see exactly what the camera shoots in 3D real time.

Re: Nu-View Adapter for Stereo Video
Wed, February 13, 2008 - 7:32 AMElliot, are you interested in selling the Nuview? I'm looking for a used one, preferrably already polarizer-modded - or even the Stereocam or Wasol. It would need to be in good shape optically, and I need some way to attach it to a 43mm or 52mm filter thread.
Paypal & Ebay feedback are available, I'm based in the UK but importing's no problem. If anybody has one, let me know.
